Laser Hair Removal (Pain-Free!).

Unwanted facial and body hair is a common, aggravating problem for both men and women and could even grow into a source of distress. Laser is quickly becoming the most popular type of hair removal. Just imagine to never having to shave, wax, tweeze or deal with ingrown hairs and razor rash again!

At Nu Image MD we offer painless permanent hair reduction for all pigmented hair on all skin types.

The broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin. It travels through skin layers until it reaches the hair follicle. The hair follicle contains dark colored melanin, which absorbs the light. The temperature rises, which destroys the hair-producing cells around the follicle.

Hair grows in several phases: anagen, telogen and catagen. Laser works only for the hair follicles in their active stage of growth – early anagen. Because of that several sessions are required to provide long-term reduction of hair. The number of sessions may also depend on area treated, amount of hair, skin tone, coarseness of hair, patient’s gender and reason for excessive hair growth. For example, areas with thinner skin, e.g. underarms, bikini area respond better than areas with thicker skin, e.g. chin, back. Laser does not work well on blond, red, white or grey hair. People with dark hair and light skin are the best candidates for laser hair removal. Generally 10% to 25% reduction in hair growth can be expected after each treatment.

Lasers for hair removal have also proven to be an effective treatment for a persistent ingrown hair problem, or razor burn that men and women may encounter due to daily shaving. Folliculitis and furuncles, which are caused by the inflammation of the hair follicle, are another skin conditions that can be helped by hair removal laser treatments.

Please Note: It is important to come in as often as indicated by our medical provider to achieve desired results! Treatments are generally performed every four weeks.

Resurfacing Laser. (Alma Pixel Pro 2940)

Acne scarring, enlarged pores, lines, wrinkles, years of sun damage, melasma, age spots; all these may be successfully treated with our Pixel Pro 2940 Laser. For many years less invasive approaches for treating all of the above have been preferable due to their lower risk/benefit ratio. Nowadays, however, non-ablative fractionated skin resurfacing is becoming very popular, because it provides great results with no or little downtime. Try our consumer-friendly Alma Laser! In comparison with conventional ablative lasers, which remove the top layer of the skin in the area treated, the Pixel Pro 2940 damages only certain zones in the treatment area creating white, pixel-like dots. The treatment process is so gentle that the chest, neck, face and hands can be treated with minimal discomfort and less chances of side effects. The unique Alma Laser system combines the efficacy of the ablative resurfacing treatments with the comfort of non-ablative less invasive procedures.

How does the pixel work? The pixel laser beam is divided into multiple beams, which penetrate the epidermis and upper dermis resulting in multiple micro-injuries to the area treated. The micro-injured areas start the healing process and rapid growth of new epidermal cells. The healing boosts the collagen production within the skin, resulting in smoother skin and a refreshed appearance.

The 49-pixel matrix penetrates deeper; therefore it is more suitable for acne scars. Whereas, the 81-pixel matrix is more superficial, thus it is better for gentle peeling. However Pixel is not safe for use on all skin types. It cannot be used on Fitzpatrick skin type IV – very dark skin tones as Afro-Caribbean and African black skin.

Treatments are generally well tolerated and almost pain-free, with minimal to no downtime and a speedy healing process. Patients described some warmth and ‘elastic band’ sensations, during treatment. The treatment of acne scars and deeper lines may cause more discomfort.

Immediately after the treatment some sunburn-like redness and skin flaking from the dots may be expected. But the skin will generally feel tighter, firmer, and smoother to touch. The redness should resolve in 24-48 hours, depending on skin sensitivity. Our Avene Cicalfate Restorative Cream will bring your downtime to the minimal.

Multiple treatments with Pixel Pro 2940 are required for optimal results. They range between 3 to 5 treatments 1 to 4 weeks apart.

IPL Photofacial.

Intense Pulsed Light is a non-surgical, quick and effective way for skin rejuvenation. It targets lower layers of skin (dermis) without causing damage to the more superficial layer (epidermis). It successfully battles unwanted skin pigmentation, sun damage, helps to fade age spots, reduce redness, rosacea, and spider veins, dilated capillaries on face, chest, arms, hands, and neck, as well as decrease the appearance of pores and fine lines. Generally patients need to undergo 3 to 5 treatments, every 3 to 4 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.

After only one or two treatments the sun spots will start to fade, the skin will have more even tone and texture, with less apparent lines and pores, less redness or flushing. This treatment is ideal for those with active lifestyle. There’s no downtime and no anesthetic is required, since the treatment is usually very well tolerated. The redness and swelling that may occur after treatment disappear shortly.

The IPL laser uses a range of light waves that target either the red in the hemoglobin, to help treat vascular lesion, or the brown in melanin to fade pigmented lesions.

To improve texture and fine lines IPL helps to boost the collagen production. It bypasses the epidermis, and goes straight into the dermis. The IPL gently heats the fibroblast cells, which start producing more collagen.
